Since this is my "home" page, first and foremost I want to show off the beautiful scenes of Switzerland, the place I now call "home." I hope you enjoy these photos, as well as some other samples of my work in the Portfolio. One of the luckiest photos I've ever taken. The Landwasser Viaduct near Filisur GR, can be found on the Unesco World Heritage registered Albula Line of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB).

Schwingen! Traditional Swiss wrestling. Many small tournaments take place in the summer and early fall. The winner of the national tournament, which takes place every three years, brings home a prize bull.

August 1st is Switzerland's "Nationalfeiertag." I usually manage to find a place with a good view to set off a fair amount of fireworks. Presentation is everything. Chur, Switzerland.

The Alpabfahrt in Mels, Switzerland. Many towns and villages throughout the country welcome these special decorated guests every autumn when they all make the long journey down from the mountains for the winter.

The best place to watch the sunset in Basel is on the Wettsteinbrücke.

The Chienbäse in Liestal, Basel-Landschaft takes place on the Sunday evening following Ash Wednesday.

Among other races involving horses and humans, this bit of insanity is called Skijöring, and takes place during "White Turf" on the frozen lake in St. Moritz for two weekends every February.

If you live in Switzerland, you know this tree. You will find it dripping with glittering Swarovski ornaments every Christmas season inside the Zürich HB (Hauptbahnhof/main train station), along with a wonderful Christmas market (Christkindlimarkt).

Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland, is the capital of the kanton of Graubünden.

Ascona, Switzerland. A little bit of "la dolce vita" on the shores of Lago Maggiore in the Italian speaking canton (state) of Tessin/Ticino in the south east corner of the country. The majority of this lake is located in Italy.

The city of Lugano is also in canton Ticino, but on a different lake sharing the same name as the city. Like Maggiore, the Swiss and Italians must share Lago di Lugano as well. But at least the Italians get Como all to themselves. :)

You can tell whether a church is Catholic or Protestant by what is on top of the steeple. A cock for Protestants, a cross for Catholics.

Ok, ok, I know this isn't technically *in* Switzerland, but the Pontifical Swiss Guards in Vatican City are about as Swiss as you get. They have done their military service, are Catholic, and...are single and really nice guys (I can vouch. Ladies!).

Swiss Guard photo shoot. When the guards finish their service (minimum 2 years), they all print a photo of themselves with their contact info on the back and pass them out. It's a nice way of keeping in touch, aside from social media stalking.
